Week 12 — Flow Super Progress! 🍯
Frame 8 scratched and moved to center, Flow super frames pulled, bees still sealing gaps

📝 Super calm bees at Day 70! All 8 bottom frames healthy, loads of capped brood, fresh eggs confirm queen is active. Scratched Frame 8 honey cells with fork to encourage bees to move stores up to Flow super. Moved Frame 8 to center for more brood space. Pulled Flow super frames, bees still sealing gaps with wax. Honey coming soon!

Week 11 — Nectar Flow is On! 🍯
All 8 frames inspected, queen found Frame 2, bees sealing Flow super, nectar flow confirmed!

📝 Super calm bees at Day 63! All 8 bottom frames healthy with loads of capped brood. Queen found on Frame 2 below the excluder. Nectar flow is on! Bees sealing Flow super cell gaps with wax, getting ready to store nectar. Will pull Flow frames next inspection July 6th!

Week 10 — Switching to the Flow Super! 🍯
Full inspection both boxes, queen found Frame 7, Flow super installed June 23, bees working immediately!

📝 Found bottom box was sugar water bound — stopped all feeding! Medium 2nd box barely touched after 18 days, decided to switch to Flow super. Found queen on Frame 7 with faded white mark. June 23rd installed queen excluder and Flow super with wax-painted frames. Bees started working within minutes! By June 24th already closing cell gaps. Honey season begins! 🍯

Week 9 — Queen Found in the Second Box! 👑📦
All 8 bottom frames inspected, queen spotted in box 2, waggle dance witnessed on Frame 8!

📝 Bees doing great at Day 51! All 8 bottom box frames healthy. Witnessed waggle dance on Frame 8. Quick peek at box 2 showed fresh comb being drawn. Surprise find — the queen was spotted on the middle frame of box 2! She had a tiny bit of paint on her wings from last week but looks perfectly healthy. Next full inspection June 22!

Queen found on Frame 7 and marked white, 2nd box fully drawn, super calm bees!

📝 Best inspection yet! Found and marked the queen on Frame 7 with white paint, the official 2026 color. Second box is fully drawn on all frames. Bottom box full of healthy bees. Bees were super calm with no head butting. Continuing 1:1 sugar water feeding. Next check June 17!

📝 First check since adding box 2! Bees busy finishing bottom box frames, new brood on new frames, queen is laying healthy. Second box being cleaned by bees but not touched yet. Practice queen cups present with no larvae. Added sugar water to encourage comb drawing.

📝 Colony thriving at Day 37! All 8 frames inspected, more brood on every frame. Found practice queen cups, no larvae inside. Lots of pollen on Frame 8. Added 2nd box on June 4th with pollen patty bridge. Also got my first sting — lesson learned about bare hands and suit scent! 🐝

Week 5 — Problem Solved! 🎉
Queen spotted on Frame 2, new brood on new frames, colony thriving

📝 Bees were super calm, queen spotted on Frame 2 laying beautifully on the new center frames. New brood visible, honey bound issue almost fully corrected. Destroyed practice queen cells. Light 1:1 sugar top-up. Next week, clean frame edges and add box 2!

First queen sighting! Frame rotation, supercedure cups were false alarm

📝 QUEEN SPOTTED for the first time on Frame 4 center right! Rotated frames 2 and 6 to center to give her more laying space. Supercedure cups from last week were a false alarm, completely gone. Colony correction is working!

📝 Discovered honey bound frames from checkerboarding combined with heavy feeding sugar water and stimulants. Stopped all feeding immediately. Possible supercedure cups spotted. New white wax on outer frames shows colony needs more space soon!

📝 First full documented inspection 17 days after NUC transfer. All 5 original frames covered in bees with solid capped brood pattern. Queen clearly laying well from day one. New plastic foundation frames still being drawn out. Colony looks incredibly healthy!

Transfer Day — Colony Day 1! 🏠
5-frame NUC moved into the BeeHiveCastle, within 3 hours they found pollen!

📝 Transfer day! 5-frame NUC moved into the hand-painted BeeHiveCastle Flow Hive in Hayward, CA. First 5 days not documented but within 3 hours of transfer the foragers had already found pollen! The BeeHiveCastle adventure begins! Read the full story on the About My Bees page.
