Week 18 and harvest is almost here! Quick inspection today on the 28th, inspecting every 10 days or so through summer to keep a close eye on progress. The colony is absolutely packed with bees, lots and lots of them, and a lot of capped brood throughout all 8 frames. The BeeHiveCastle is at peak summer strength!
We did spot the queen during the inspection but she was moving fast and disappeared before we could get a photo, she is there and she is busy! Fresh eggs and lots of capped brood throughout the bottom box confirm she is laying at full capacity. A bustling full colony in late August is exactly what you want to see.
🍯 The Flow super frames are ALMOST FULL! The bees have been working incredibly hard since the last inspection and the honey is really building up now. We are getting very close to harvest time. The plan is to harvest before winter and then supplement feed the colony if needed to make sure they have enough stores to get through. First-year honey is almost in the jar! 🎉
✅ Fantastic inspection at Day 123! Colony is at peak strength with huge bee numbers, lots of capped brood, queen confirmed present, and Flow super frames almost full. Harvest is just around the corner. What an incredible first-year journey this has been!
⚠️ Practice queen cups present as always, completely empty. No swarm concern — the colony is happy, productive and has plenty of space. Left them in place.
📋 Next steps, checking Flow super fill level on next inspection, planning harvest timing, and supplemental feeding plan after harvest to build winter stores. The first BeeHiveCastle honey harvest is coming soon!
